Ten Hands Café, Towcester

A small outdoor space for a new café bar in the centre of Towcester. The design was mainly to incorporate planting which we implemented to soften what started off as a harsh, urban backyard.

The site is in a Conservation Area and care was also taken to protect and enhance the old market town aesthetic of Towcester High Street.
The space is a sun trap and Italian – style planting including Olives, Rosemary, Lavender, Perovskia and other herbs was chosen to both reflect the feel of the café interior, its contemporary café culture vibe and take advantage of the sunny, protected courtyard conditions.

Plant shadows accentuate the rough rendered Italianate stone wall feel and grasses were also planted to provide form against the cedar panels.
